M1833 Officer's Dress Tailcoat, except Generals, Mexican War
    A great deal of time and hand stitching is used to get these coats "just right". The coat is double breasted with 10 buttons in each row, and is made using our Deluxe Dark Blue Wool. The high collar is trimmed with either gold or silver lace depending on branch of service, and closes completely in the front.The collar and cuffs for Dragoons are solid yellow, whereas Artillery and Infantry are dark blue with piping.

    Other features include, tube style sleeves with piped slash with size and amount of lace loops according to rank, colored turnbacks on the tail according to branch- Red for Artillery, Yellow for Dragoons, White for Infantry, piped tail slash with 4 lace loops and large buttons, US Eagle letter buttons according to branch are sewn on, and machine stitched buttonholes. Epaulettes shown are purchased separately. Colored cotton body lining with natural cotton sleeve lining, and wool skirt lining. Correct embroidered tail badge for branch.

    The correct trousers for this coat are: The M1833 Trousers for up until 1841+ OR the M1841 Trousers for 1841 on. Summer Trousers were authorized with this dress coat for use from May 1st through September 30th.

U.S. M1833 Officers Dress Shako

M1833 Officer's Dress Shako (Dragoon), except Generals, Mexican War
    We are currently working on the Infantry Officer's Dress Shako as pictured below. We already have the insignia in and the helmet and plume on order. We will replace the black and white picture with a color one as soon as we have it all together.

    Shako Pattern: Wool felt (regulations call for beaver felt), 7 1/2" deep, with lacqured sunk tip 7 1/2" inches in diameter. with a band of black patent leather to encircle the cap; with black patent leather peak; a strap of patent leather, fastened to each side of the cap, to be worn under the chin.

    Artillery Officers Shako: as Shako Pattern above plus gilt eagle, and cross cannons and number of regiment. A plume of red cock feathers, falling from an upright stem, eight inches long, with a gilt socket. Officers of the horse artillery will be allowed to wear a red horsehair plume, instead of a cock-feather.

    Dragoon Officers Shako: as Shako Pattern above to be ornamented with a gilt star, silver eagle, and gilt cord; the star to be worn in front, with a drooping horse-hair pompon; the field officers to have a small strip of red horse-hair to show in front of their pompons.

    Infantry Officers Shako: as Shako Pattern above plus gilt eagle, and silver bugle and number of regiment. A plume of white cock feathers, falling from an upright stem, eight inches long, with a gilt socket.

    All parts are supplied loose and you must attach them to the shako.

US M1841 Trousers - Sky Blue Winter, Mexican War
    M1841 Officer Foot Trousers, except Dragoons: use our 19 ounce field service wool as standard with a deluxe grade of Dark Blue or Sky Blue available at extra cost. Sky Blue Trousers were used for Company and Regimental Officers, while Dark Blue Trousers were for Generals and General Staff. All wore a 1-1/2" trouser stripe: Red for Artillery; Dark Blue for Infantry from 1841 - 1845; White for Infantry from 1846-1851; Buff for Generals and General Staff.

    M1841 Dragoon Officer Foot Trousers: as worn from 1841 thru 1851 use our 19 ounce field service wool as standard with a deluxe grade of wool available at extra cost. Foot trousers would typically be worn when not "in the saddle". I.E. on Post, while Mounted trousers would be worn when "in the saddle". Dragoon Officers pant stripes: Company/Sub-Altern (2nd Lieutenant thru Captain, shown at left) wore Sky Blue Wool trousers with two 3/4" Yellow Wool stripes with a 1/4" Window. Dragoon Regimental Officers (Major thru Colonel, not shown) wore Dark Blue Wool with two 3/4" Gold Lace stripes with a 1/4" window.

    All M1841 Foot Trousers have side seam pockets, with pewter buttons for fly and suspenders sewn on in the double button pattern. Fly Front style in Foot or Mounted. Back has a cord tie for adjustment and is without yoke. By Regulations, wool trousers were to be worn from October 1 thru April 30. From May 1 thru September 30, white cotton duck trousers were to be worn.
