Distinctive BLACK sleeve braid denoting the officer's rank is as follows: 2nd Lieutenant - None, 1st Lieutenant - 1 row, Captain's - 2 rows, Major's - 3 rows, Lt Col - 4 rows, Colonel's - 5 rows, Generals - 5 rows in a double loop pattern similar to the Confederate Officer's Sleeve braid design.

    NOTE on 2nd Lieutenants Coat: We do not suggest buying the 2nd Lieutenants coat, unless you just want the coat without the sleeve braid. Most 2nd Lieutenants get promoted quickly and then need the coat upgraded. To add 1 row of braid to an already made coat is $100.00. (This is because the sleeve needs to be removed and disassembled, the braid added and then the coat reassembled.)

    The coat has a 14 button front for Junior Officers, 18 for Senior Officers, 16 spaced 4x2 for Brigadier Generals and 18 spaced 3x3 for Major Generals.

    The 1872 General Service buttons are included in the price but not sewn on. Other buttons are available for an additional charge and the buttons can also be sewn on for an additional charge.
