    This is the embroidered insignia. It is Gold Bullion for Civil War & Indian Wars. The small insignia (Cap) is for use on Kepi's and Forage Caps; while the large insignia (Hat) is for use on Slouch Hats and Hardee Hats.

    Normally supplied loose (not attached to hat/cap), but can be sewn on, when purchased WITH a hat or cap for an additional amount.

Hand Twisted

Staff and Field Officers, Regulation: Black Silk and Gold Bullion hat cord. On some of these the acorn is reversed with a gold bullion tip and black netting. This hat cord is available either in machine braided or hand twisted. The hand twisted is thicker cording.

General Officers, Regulation: Gold Bullion hat cord for all Generals.

Artillery, NON-Regulation:  Red Silk and Gold Bullion hat cord.

Cavalry, NON-Regulation:  Yellow Silk and Gold Bullion hat cord. This one looks very much like the Generals and you have to look close to see that there is yellow silk and it is not all gold bullion.

Infantry, NON-Regulation:  Light Blue Silk and Gold Bullion hat cord.

    Very Fancy Shoulder Boards: these included: Double Row Border, Triple Row Border, Four Row Border and Oak Leaf Border. These are wider than the standard shoulder boards, up to 2-1/4" wide. We only offer the triple row and oak leaf border ones. These are special order shoulder boards and can take 4 to 12 weeks for delivery.

Medical Officer

    Junior Grade Officer epaulettes have 1/8" diameter fringe. The rank insignia on each epaulette is: 2nd Lieutenant - no rank insignia and 1st Lieutenant - 1 bar.

    Company Grade Officer epaulettes have 1/4" diameter fringe. The rank insignia on each epaulette is: Captain - 2 bars.

    Senior and General Officer epaulettes have 1/2" diameter fringe. The rank insignia on each epaulette is: Major - no rank insignia, Lieutenant Colonel - 1 silver oak leaf, Colonel - 1 Silver Eagle, Brigadier General 1 star (1.5"), Major General - 2 stars (1 - 1.5" & 1 - 1.25"), Major General Commanding/Lieutenant General 3 stars (1 - 1.5", 1 - 1.25" & 1 - 1.125" Note: We do not have the smallest star available, so you would need to use 2 - 1.25" stars.).

    Medical Officer epaulettes are identical to the Line Officer Epaulettes except they have the gold Wreath and silver M.S. letters in Old English embroidered in the crescent. Different diameters of fringe (and rank insignia) designated the various ranks of surgeon. Epaulettes as worn by Assistant Surgeon (Captain Rank- 1/4" fringe diameter). Two silver bars (per strap) need to be ordered to compete the rank structure. Junior Asst Surgeon (First Lieutenant) with 1/8" fringe diameter is also available (one pair of silver bars should be ordered). Regimental Surgeon (rank of Major) has the 1/2" diameter fringe but is without other rank insignia. Brigade Surgeon uses the same Epaulettes but order with the Silver Oak Leaf insignia. Medical Officer Epaulettes are custom order and take 8 to 10 weeks to deliver. Please allow sufficient time when ordering.

    A Deluxe Storage Box is available to keep your Epaulets in good condition when not in use. Deluxe Box is made of heavy paste board and covered with black leather and lined with white cotton. Due to limited quantities, we can only offer the storage boxes to customers of our Epaulets. (Imported)

    A gold 1/4" cord is woven in the correct pattern with red wool underlay. We offer two styles for Company Grade Officers (Captains and Lieutenants) -Standard and Extra Rich. The Extra Rich design has the shoulder end loops more extended. Only one style is offered for Field Grade Officers. Ranks shown in the photo are of Second Lieutenant on both Company Grade knots and Major on the Field Grade knot as these ranks did not use any other insignia.

Knots on this page are sold separate from a uniform. They are "By-the Pair" and include attaching hardware and buttons of your choice- US Marine or US Artillery Officer.
