M1879 Junior Officer's Dress Frockcoat |

> This is the M1879 pattern Junior
Officer's double breasted frockcoat with a 14 button
front. It was worn by Captain's, First Lieutenants and Second Lieutenants.
It is made from 16 ounce deluxe officer’s dark blue wool with the deluxe
polished cotton black lining and has 3 buttons on each cuff. The 2 strips of 3/4" gold lace on the sleeve
cuffs that were on the M1872 coat have been dropped. Made from
original specifications.
Shoulder Knots and/or Shoulder Boards are NOT included
(whether pictured or not),
but are available for an additional cost. Shoulder Knots: for 1st
through 10th Regiments, you select them from the "Regiment or Dept:"
drop-down. For ALL other Regiments, select the "Other Regiment - SPECIFY
+$79.00" option from the "Regiment or Dept:" drop-down and place the number
in the "Other #" box.

from 16 ounce deluxe officer’s dark blue wool with the deluxe polished
cotton black lining and has 3 buttons on each cuff. The 2 strips of 3/4" gold lace on
the sleeve cuffs that were on the M1872 coat have been dropped. Made from
original specifications.

Authorized for all ranks except generals, for use ONLY
on the Officer's Dress Frock Coat. Generals still wore the Gold Bullion Fringed Epaulets that were
authorized in 1855 (see Civil War section).
Comes with Branch Color Background and with Rank Insignia. Regimental
Number can be added for an additional charge. The 1st Lieutenant, Capt and Major of the 7th Cavalry
are shown and are normally, but not always, stocked by my supplier and take 2 to 3 weeks.
Epaulets are NOT included with coats whether shown with the coat or not,
but are available for an additional cost. You must add this item to the cart separately.

1872 and later US Army Officer
Shoulder Boards - In 1872, the Army Board changed the bars on Insignia
for First Lieutenants and Captains to Silver from the Gold that was used
previously.
In 1885 and in 1887, color changes were
made designating the Infantry and the Cavalry from the 1872 colors- See
larger view.
Normally only worn on the fatigue uniforms (Sack Coat and Undress Coat). But sometimes used on the Dress
Frock Coat for Undress Occasions. Shoulder boards for uniforms are sold in pairs.
Branch of service colors are: Artillery - Red, Cavalry -
1872-1886 Lemon Yellow / 1887-1898 Dark Yellow, Chaplain - Black w/Cross or
Shepherd's Crook, Engineer - Black w/E.C., Infantry - 1872-1884 Sky Blue /
1885-1898 White, Medical - Black w/M.S.,
Paymaster - Black w/P.D., Quartermaster - Black w/Q.M., Signal Corps - Black w/S.S.
Staff, including ALL Generals - Black.
