Trousers should be worn quite loose. They also have a
1" higher rise than today's blue jeans. Legs are left un-hemmed so
that you can hem them the length that you want. Pewter buttons for fly and
suspenders are supplied. Two front suspender buttons is standard.
Mounted style has an extra layer of wool in the seat
and inner leg area.
Pattern 1872 trousers are available in both Foot
(Dismounted) and Mounted version. They are made from Sky Blue Kersey for
enlisted & field officers and Dark Blue Wool for staff officers. They have top opening
pockets, a wide waistband, tin buttons and a rear cord tie for adjustment. Pattern made
from original specifications.

M1884 Trousers, Sky Blue

With the trousers adopted in 1884, the Army wanted
to use up the last remaining stocks of Civil War era sky blue wool kersey. So, the
model 1884 pattern trousers are made from Sky Blue Kersey. They have gone back to the
1-3/4” width waistband, and have added one rear hip pocket on the right. The two side
seam pockets remain. There is a back belt with buckle and black metal buttons. Pattern
made form original specifications. In this model year, the trouser legs started a slight
"bell bottom effect". Also 11 black metal buttons are supplied but not sewn
on.

Our M-1884 Fatigue Trousers feature the
Nutmeg colored cotton duck (canvas). The trousers have slanted top opening pockets in
front, a watch pocket on the right side and a patch type back pocket on the right side.
A double belt and buckle arrangement make the back
adjustable. According to Regulations, the 1-3/4” width waistband and the fly are
faced with the same fabric.
Although not evident in the photo, the trouser legs
show a slight "bell bottom" effect following the 1884 Army Regulations. Black
metal buttons are sewn on the fly and waistband for suspenders. Available in Foot
style only.

M1885 Trousers, Mid-Blue

Pattern 1885 trousers are the same as 1884
trousers, but made with the 1885 regulation darker shade of sky blue (referred
to as Mid-Blue) wool. The color is actually closer to a Royal Blue, than a Medium
Blue. The regulations called for "Goods of a somewhat darker and more
serviceable color, less liable to result from in the diversity of shades found
in the deliveries of the various contracts". Reports state that dye lots of
this new color still varied greatly.

The Regulation M-1898 Khaki Trousers as
worn by Army Foot Soldiers are made from a 6 ounce khaki cotton, the trousers follow
the design of the M-1889 wool trousers. That is side seam pockets with right side
watch pocket, split back with belt and buckle for adjustment, one right rear hip
inset pocket, and buttons for suspenders. The double button style waistband to
support the suspenders is standard with the buttons sewn on.
A branch colored stripe in the appropriate size for your rank
can be added to the 1898 trousers if the customer desires. Available in Foot
style only.

M1899 Khaki Trousers

The Regulation M-1899 Khaki Field Trousers as
worn by Army Foot Soldiers are shown at left. Improvements to this model were curved
front pockets, addition of a second back pocket, and an out-seam lace up system- see
photo at below.
Leg stripes were not worn on the 1899 khaki trousers. The double
button style waistband to support the suspenders is standard with the buttons sewn on.
As an option, belt loops can be added. If this option is chosen, the waistband buttons

Natural Cotton Drawers

Natural Cotton Drawers - (Full
length period underwear) Made out of 100% Natural Cotton, these drawers come
with Mother of Pearl buttons sewn on, and draw string tie at the ankles.
Great to wear under wool trousers if you would rather not have the wool
fibers next to your skin.
The drawers on your left side are what is offered on this page. These drawers
come in two styles; short and long.
The Long Drawers are for 1850s up until near the
turn of the century. They are to approximately ankle length. These are
offered with stirrups to hold the leg down, for an additional price.
The Short Drawers are for the 1700s through the 1850 (pre Civil War), and for Mounted
use up until near the turn of the century (1890s). They come to below your knees, which makes the good for use by horseman
and cavalry. It allows for less bulk down your leg under your boot. Not shown is casing with ribbon ties,
to hold pants down. The casing with ties is and additional charge. With the military theses Drawers / Long John Bottoms were private purchase.
These are made in a white good weight cotton muslin, band waist band, with button up
the front and a cut "V" in back for adjusting for comfort.
Extra Measurements; Length: For the short drawers from natural waist
(out-seam at the height of the belly button) to 3"
below the knee cap (middle of calf muscle). For the long drawers from the
natural waist to the ankle.
Options: 28" to 44" waist. With or without casing and ties ($10.00

Indian Wars & Spanish American War (Span-Am) Canvas Leggings
The leggins changed during the time of the Indian Wars and Spanish American
Wars. The model designations were: M1885, M1889, M1894, M1895 Foot, M1895 Mounted, M1897 and M1898.
M1885: leggings were short and only extended about halfway between the ankle and the knee.
M1889: Brown (Tan) Leggings were also short (12" High) and only extended about halfway between
the ankle and the knee.
M1894: Brown (Tan) Leggings (Adopted February 20, 1894). These are the taller leggings and are
nominally 16" high. They are made from brown cotton duck.
