Civil War Officers Sash
  Both the CS and US Army regulations call for officers to wear a silk net sash to be wrapped twice around the waist and tie at the left hip. The pendent was not to extend lower than 18 inches from the waistline. US Sergeant Majors, Quartermaster Sergeants, Hospital Stewards and First Sergeants were to wear red wool sashes.
