 Civilian Vests (Shawl Collar and Notched Collar) 
Civilain Double Breasted Shawl Collar Vest, 19th Century Men's Clothing
    The Waistcoat (vest) was single or double breasted, with or without collars and revers and usually waist length. They were usually in rich materials, plain or patterned, often brightly colored. By 1860, for formal wear, were usually lighter in color and fabric. For evening wear were always white or black. Black was correct formal wear from 1860's to the end of the 1880's. CIVILIAN VESTS were quite commonly worn by the enlisted men on both sides of the conflict. The vests were usually brought from home or procured locally. The vest features two front pockets.

    The SHAWL COLLAR VEST has a laydown collar style. Five cloth button front closure, the back is adjustable by means of a belt and buckle. Also available in Double Breasted version. The Partial Collar stops at the shoulder seams, while the Full Collar goes all the way around the neck.

    The NOTCHED COLLAR VEST has a seven cloth button button front closure. This vest can also be made in the military wools also.

    Our civilian vest is made from quality lighter weight woolens, our military woolens and also corduroy.

    We have a variety of  'Frontier Classics' brand Waistcoats (vests) available in single or double breasted with a variety of collars, bottom cuts and numbers of pockets. Depending on the specific vest they come in Canvas, Duck, Denim, Cotton/Linen or Poly/Cotton. The Poly/Cotton the only material offered that is NOT an authentic material. I have not yet researched the actual dates for these vests, which will vary depending especially on the bottom cut, number of pockets and depth of the neck opening.

    Prospector Vest (CM602): Single Breasted Notched Collar vest in 100% cotton denim with four (4) front pockets. The bottom-front is cut straight across. Available in Blue/Tan Pinstripe.

    Ranger Vest (CM603): Single Breasted Notched Collar vest in 100% cotton with four (4) front pockets. The bottom-front is cut straight across. Available in Navy/Tan Herringbone.

    Dakota Vest (CM605): Single Breasted Notched Collar vest in 60% cotton/40% linen with four (4) front pockets. The bottom-front is cut straight across the front. Available Natural only. A matching Coat is also available that matches in color and material.

    Bartender Vest (CM75): Single Breasted Notched Collar vest in solid color Poly/Cotton with satin back and two (2) front pockets. The bottom-front is Double "V" cut across. Available in Black and Navy Blue.
