Military Vests for U.S. (Union) or C.S. (Confederate)   Enlisted, NCO's and Officers      Our U.S. Military Vest has a small standing collar with three (3) pockets, while the C.S. Military Vest has a small standing collar with two (2) lower pockets.. Both have a nine (9) button front and the small brass buttons are supplied. The back is adjustable by means of a belt with buckle. The back and belts are black cotton and the lining is natural muslin.     This vest is available in standard colors of wool and also in deluxe colors of wool, for an additional charge.     Buttonholes, whether machine-sewn or hand-sewn, are done in a color appropriate to the fabric color. They were usually in rich materials, plain or patterned, often brightly colored. By 1860, for formal wear, were usually lighter in color and fabric. For evening wear were always white or black. Black was correct formal wear from 1860's to the end of the 1880's. CIVILIAN VESTS were quite commonly worn by the enlisted men on both sides of the conflict. The vests were usually brought from home or procured locally. The vest features two front pockets.     The SHAWL COLLAR VEST has a laydown collar style. Five cloth button front closure, the back is adjustable by means of a belt and buckle. Also available in Double Breasted version. The Partial Collar stops at the shoulder seams, while the Full Collar goes all the way around the neck.     The NOTCHED COLLAR VEST has a seven cloth button button front closure. This vest can also be made in the military wools also.     Our civilian vest is made from quality lighter weight woolens, our military woolens and also corduroy.
