 Ladies Under-Hoop Slip

Under Hoop Slip, 19th Century Ladies Underpinnings

This is an under hoop slip, for those that really feel the need for a slip. It is good to wear rather or not you wear a hoop. Without a hoop, I suggest this as a highly needed item. Great for those camp/ work dresses. There is a 5"-6" ruffle at bottom of matching material. Casing at top with a gorgon ribbon for tying.

Optional; For those that want to where it over a one or 2 bone hoop, please e-mail for price and measurements needed, for the length of your hoop bone to add a second row of ruffle and into the right places and to fit the dimensional at the bottom right.

     Materials;  White cotton.

Measurements needed for under hoop slip is; waist, height and length from waist over hip and straight down to floor or fill out Measurement Chart.

 Ladies Over-Hoop Slip

Over Hoop Slip, 19th Century Ladies Underpinnings
Over hoop slip is designed for the standard 6 bone hoop that most re-enactors wear. It has a casing at the top with a gorgon ribbon for tying.  There are four panels of matching material ruffles to hide all the hoop bones that we see everywhere.

I personally believe that everyone that has a hoop needs an over hoop slip.

Material is white cotton or cotton blend.

Measurement needed are Waist, height, length from over the hips, straight down to the floor, and type of hoop worn, or fill out Measurement Chart.

 Ladies Wedding Slip

Ladies wedding slip, 19th Century Ladies Underpinnings
Pictured is the Wedding Slip. This is a beautiful slip taken from an original. The back of the slip consists of several layers of lace and the bottom of the slip is surrounded by two rows of lace. White cotton and lace.

Slips 1870's - 1890's. Half slips made from bleached muslin. As an example, the 1880's slip has eyelet ruffles and 12 tucks on bottom of skirt with gathering at back. Taken from originals.

Usually at least two slips were worn. Specify period and style.

Ladies 7 Bone Hoop Slip, White Cotton-Polyester. There's a tiny piece of lace at the bottom. This hoop slip is 144" circumference without ruffles and 160" circumference with ruffles. There are two versions of this hoop slip, one is the Standard version and the other is a Custom version. The Standard version gathers at waist and ties with a drawstring, while the Custom version has a waistband and is made to your size (both waist size and height). We suggest a 7 bone hoop for those women that are 5'8" and Taller. The 7 bone Custom hoop slips take longer to deliver (3 to 6 weeks), since they are made to order.

Ladies 6 Bone Hoop Slip, White Cotton-Polyester. This hoop slip is 144" circumference without ruffles and 160" circumference with ruffles. It gathers at waist and ties with a drawstring. there's a tiny piece of lace at the bottom. The ruffle option adds one row of ruffles to cover each bone, which adds to the fullness. This is what most Sutlers carry. We recommend an over hoop slip or the ruffle version to not show bones through your outfit. I highly recommend a over hoop slip with this one.

Ladies 4 Bone Hoop Slip, White Cotton-Polyester. This hoop slip is 124" circumference with or without ruffles. It gathers at waist and ties with a drawstring. The ruffle option adds one row of ruffles to cover each bone, which adds to the fullness. It's not as disastrous to have an over hoop slip with this one.

Ladies 3 Bone Hoopslip,  White Cotton-Polyester. This hoop slip is 104" circumference with or without ruffles. It gathers at waist and ties with a drawstring. The ruffle option adds one row of ruffles to cover each bone, which adds to the fullness. It's not as disastrous to have an over hoop slip with this one.

The 2 Bone Hoopslip, White Cotton-Polyester. This hoop slip is 98" circumference without or without ruffles. It can be used for day dresses. It is especially good in confined spaces where the larger hoop slips can get in the way. It is a way for camp followers, wash women, ladies working in a store to have some fullness without having it get in the way of everything.

The 2 Bone, 3 Bone, 4 Bone, 6 Bone Hoop Slips and 7 Bone Standard Hoop Slips are "One size fits all". Hoop slips of 6 bones or less are NOT recommend for women 5'8" and taller, as they should be in a 7 bone hoop. See note below if you need to shorten the hoop slip for shorter women.

The 4 Bone or 3 Bone Hoopslips are great for those women that are just beginning. they can be used while waiting for your corded petticoat. For those that do an earlier impression, just take the 4th bone, (at bottom), thread the bone to be the same size as the 3rd (above bone), use carpet thread to tack the casing / tube, so not to open and you will have more of a bell shape.

Over-Hoop Slips: we recommend an over hoop slip for all hoop slips without ruffles. The Hoop Slips with ruffles can usually be used without an over hoop slip, saving the cost of the over hoop slip. Over-Hoop Slips and ruffles help to smooth over and hide the boning. If the dress is made from an extremely thin and light weight material you may still need an over hoop slip, even with a hoop slip with ruffles.

Great for washing. Just put in the tub, wash, rinse and hang dry over shower head.

Half Apron with pockets and horizontal tucks. Victorian & Civil War dresses    NOTE: No standard hoop will be the right length for everybody. The standard hoop slips are designed for someone the is about 5' 4" to 5' 6". If the hoop slip is too long for you, you just need to make horizontal tucks to shorten it. You can use one or more of these to adjust it to the length you need. The half apron to the left shows an example of horizontal tucks, though these were used for decoration and growth let-out.

Ladies Corded Petticoat (Hoop), 1830s to 1855+

Ladies hoops, 19th Century Ladies Underpinnings
Corded Petticoat (Hoop)
1830s to 1855+

This is the corded petticoat from the 1830's. It is the predecessor of the hoop slip, which came out in 1855. This is the correct item for the Lowell Mill and Full Crown dresses.

The front yoke is quilted as were the originals, which usually had a layer of homespun wool for batting. We offer an optional wool batting, although it is not currently a homespun wool. There are 30 to 36 rows of cording made from 9/64 braided cotton cord, spaced from 1/2" to 1" apart. Wealthier women would have eyelet lace at the bottom and we offer an optional 5" gathered eyelet lace ruffle at the bottom with satin lace and bows at the top of the ruffle. It is string tied at the waist, as this was and is an expensive item the string tie allowed for changes in weight over time and for passing it down. Some household slaves wore these petticoats as late as the civil war, as they had been given to them by their masters when they went out of style.

    Extra cost options:
Hand Sewn Quilted Yoke, instead of machine quilted.
Wool Batting in Yoke between the 4 layers of muslin.
5" Gathered Eyelet Lace with Satin Ribbon and Bows (as shown).
