The canvas that goes into MOST of our historic tents, both military and civilian, is a 2 ply 100% cotton army duck. In an army duck the yarns are twisted before being woven into the canvas. The result is a tighter weave and increased strength. It is treated to be flame retardant, water repellent and mildew resistant with a shrinkage factor of approximately 7%.

This canvas is very white and holds its color extremely well. The flame retardancy is just that, a RETARDANT! There's no such thing as a FLAME-PROOF tent. This canvas meets California Fire Marshal's Code CPAI-84; the standard by which flame retardant treatments are measured. Check with your Attorney General's office for flame retardancy requirements on tents in your state.

If a different canvas is used it will be noted in the description of that tent.

19th Century (1800s) Dog Tent, Military
Dog Tent / Shelter Half, Civil War
This is the standard tent carried by the soldiers during the American Civil War and Indian Wars. It takes two halves to make a complete wedge. Like the originals these button together along the ridge and are supported by 2 uprights (sticks, muskets with bayonets stuck in the ground or sabres) and a rope (or ridge pole).

It takes 8 tent stakes to set up a full dog tent (2 halves buttoned together.)

These are available in either 10.38 oz UNTREATED canvas duck or 10.38 oz Sunforger with flame retardant.

These tents are made on order and can take up to 6 weeks for U.S. delivery.
I DO NOT stock then due to infrequent sales.

"A" Tents / Wedge Tents, 19th Century (1800s) Military & Civilian
Wedge Tent / "A" Tent
For reenacting the French and Indian War, American Revolution, War of 1812, Mexican War or American Civil War eras we offer these historically correct wedge tents. They come authentically made with no overlap facings and only one door.

All military wedges come with hand-worked button holes in the peak and rolled canvas peg loops, except the American Civil War tents, which have brass grommets for pegs and also at the peak.

We have discontinued these because of lack of sales and I'm tired of updating prices for nothing.

Civil War and Indian Wars Sibley Tent
Sibley Tent

The front door is an authentic 8'9" tall, while the rear ventilation doorway is 5' tall. The peak is complete with sewn iron ring, canvas collar and brass grommets, which are set through 4 layers of canvas. These Sibley tents are made a 10 ounce Water Repellent, Flame Retardant, Mildew Resistant Canvas

You can also add the optional 33" high wall to increase the headroom. Sibleys with walls need extra ropes and stakes, but no extra poles.

Wall Tents for Officers & Hospitals

Item Last Updated: Friday, 15-Mar-2024 13:47:58 MST

Officer's Tent
Wall Tents for Officers & Hospitals
We have three styles of Civil War era wall tents to choose from. Each comes with one door w/overlap facing, rolled canvas peg loops and spur washer grommets at the peak ends and along the walls. Add $25.00 for a second door.

Flys for these tents come with brass grommets along the side edges and a grommet at the midway point along each end. Of course all grommet positions are well reinforced.

The lengths of these tents and flys are variable because they're made from several canvas panels. Because canvas panels vary in width between lots the lengths of the tentage above may differ one way or the other a couple of inches.

These tents are made on order and can take up to 6 weeks for U.S. delivery.
I DO NOT stock then due to infrequent sales.

Baker (Lean-To Style) Tents

Item Last Updated: Friday, 15-Mar-2024 13:47:57 MST

19th Century (1800s) Baker Tent, Civilian
Baker (Lean-To Style) Tent
Although it is not historically authentic to the fur trade era, the baker tent lean-to is one of the most popular tents at the rendezvous. It is a wall tent cut in half longways with a flap added to the front. Our baker tent is a little more advanced. These tents are made from 10.38 ounce Flame Retardant Army Duck.

Sod Cloth (adds to price) - The sod cloth is a 9" - 10" strip of fabric sewn to the base of the lean-to at each side and along the back wall. The sod cloth helps in closing gaps on uneven ground and working with ground cloths for weather proofing your lean-to.

We offer a Privacy Curtain System (sold separately) that is the best around! Our maker developed the idea of sewing privacy curtains to the front side edge instead of up and under the flap seam. This enables you to seal off the front corners of your tent from wind and rain. It also gives you the flexibility to arrange your tent in several different ways.

  1. With the privacy curtains closed - Your curtains close with a 36" overlap and tie inside and out. This completely closes the lean-to's interior while the flap stays up for a sun/rain canopy.
  2. With the privacy curtains extended out the front - We sew ties along the side of the flap to match the ties on your privacy curtains. This lets you tie the curtains out along the sides of the flap for use as a windbreak on either side.

Adding a Front Curtain - By adding a front curtain to the end of your flap you can, in conjunction with your privacy curtains, completely wall off the area under the front flap for storage and privacy. This set-up will NOT provide you with good additional living space because you'll still have gaps along the top edge, and the roof will be too flat to shed water effectively.

We have two sizes of ground cloth (sold separately) for the baker lean-tos. They're available in both our "Regular Ground Cloth" and the "Super Ground Cloth".

The regular ground cloth is made of 10 oz. waterproof mildew resistant canvas (NOT Fire Retardant). it has a 5% shrinkage factor.

The "Super Ground Cloth" has a bottom of rip resistant woven polyethylene to seal out ground moisture and protect the canvas top layer. You do not need to put a layer of plastic or other material under the "Super Ground Cloth" to seal out moisture. (NOT Fire Retardant)

We have discontinued these because of lack of sales and I'm tired of updating prices for nothing.

Chart for Tipi Dimensions
Our Tipi is Sioux in design but we've added an extra flap at the bottom of the smoke flap, Cheyenne style, for better protection in inclement weather. We cut our arcs in the same way the Laubins did, so our Tipi is larger than you might expect. Cutting the arc this way makes the tipi a tilted cone, as it was meant to be. They have a beautiful lean-back to the rear, making the floor shape not round, but egg shaped. The net result of cutting the arc this way is that your lodge has more usable floor-space than most other Tipis.

We have discontinued these because of lack of sales and I'm tired of updating prices for nothing.
