The Summer Uniform (Coat and Trousers) was authorized for use from May 1st through September 30th. Infantry and Artillery Officers jackets have Nine small
buttons on the front. Dragoon Officers (shown at left) have Twelve small
buttons on the front. Although not specified in the 1841 Uniform Regulations, it was common for Officers in the field to attach Shoulder Boards to these cotton jackets to distinguish their rank from enlisted soldiers. We offer them below for your consideration.
