Reprints of the original copperplate gores. Made in cooperation with the Royal Library in Bruxelles. The famous Dutch cartographer Gerardus Mercator engraved the charts in 1541. Mercator's globes set the direction for 400 years of globe making.</p> <p><b>    Hondius Globe - 1597:</b> In 1597 Jodocus Hondius completed a terrestrial globe that gave an up-to-date vision of the latest geographical discoveries. By 1600 Hondius had the upper hand in Dutch globe making, mostly due to details discovered in Dutch trade voyages through the worldwide expansion of the East and West India Companies.</p> <p>The Mercator and Hondius globes are offered with several different display options: Hanging, Table / Desk Stand or a Renaissance Floor Stand. The size of the globe is different depending on the display option selected.</p> <p><b>    Terrestrial Library Globe - 1745:</b> Reproduction of globe by Robert de Vaugondy in a Hand wrought iron stand.</p> <p><b>    Armillary Sphere:</b> The ancient art of Ptolemaic concept placed the earth at the center of the universe. Made for science, armillary spheres appealed to the world of magic as well. Armillary dials have the earth (the wooden blue center) inside a mesh of bronze hoops, symbolizing the course of the planets as known at the time. The course of the sun is shown by a wide band called the ecliptic circle. Armillary or astronomical spheres go back to B.C. Greece. To keep at least a semblance of home-sweet-home comfort, the pack train carried furniture for the officers and staff. They were made of solid mahogany or rosewood with indestructible brass hardware. These are pure and true replicas of the furniture that made life worth living back then.</p> <p>    <b>British Butler Table:</b> This tray has two serving options: fold up sides for compact look and fold down sides for maximum serving space.
